In my mid-fifties I found myself divorced and raising two kids on my own. They call it a "Gray Divorce" and evidently, they're on the rise. I had been a stay-at-home mom for 13 years and was currently working very part-time (my income was under the poverty level). I was happy because I was finally free to make my own decisions, but where to start? My passion for the environment and living a clean, healthy lifestyle for my kids and me was a top priority, but how was I going to afford it?
I learned the hard way that understanding money and taking control is a must. I was afraid of money, so I avoided it. But you can't avoid bills. I had 2 kids to support, a new mortgage, plus all the other bills that life throws at you, and I wasn't prepared. I did, however, know I had to get a good-paying job, so I set out to reinvent myself. I dove into YouTube University to get up to speed on the latest trends and software in my field and landed a great job doing what I love. A huge bonus was that my new boss was a rockstar in all things finance. So I listened and took notes. Over the next two years, I learned so much! I'm now more on top of things and have my finances in order. I'm out of debt and saving for retirement, all while putting one kid through college (and another one soon!).
Remember that rock star boss I mentioned who helped me so much? Her name is Steph Wagner, and you're in luck because she just wrote an amazing book to help women take control of their financial lives! It's called "Fly. A Woman's Guide to Financial Freedom and Building a Life You Love." (Get it here https://amzn.to/4p4b8ue ). Oh, how I wish I had this book six years ago! It helps you understand your relationship with money, and then it walks you through how to evaluate your current financial situation. Through practical tips and exercises, you'll learn how to make confident decisions with your money, set goals, and craft a comprehensive plan to turn your vision into a reality!
I'm excited that everyone now has a chance to tap into Steph's knowledge. Because let's be real, you can't live a clean and sustainable life without having your finances in order!
